With the US release, the red tint issue has been taken care of. It was so bad, a group of people actually sued Buena Vista Japan to get the problem fixed. 10 out of 10 The Video The whole "red tint" issue with the Japanese DVD release of Spirited Away is pretty well documented, but the basic gist of it is that when the Region 2 disc hit Japan people noticed a heavy amount of red tint in the picture.

It's a movie that deserves a place in any DVD collection. It's an imaginative adventure while at the same time delivering a story that ranks right up there with the best live action movies. While everyone has his or her favorite Studio Ghibli film (until I saw Spirited Away I was very partial to Mononoke), this definitely feels like the most complete and heartfelt movie that Miyazaki has directed. A Miyazaki film without a Hisaishi score would be like Spielberg without John Williams. Once again, Joe Hisaishi as crafted another memorable score for a Ghibli film, one that ranks right up there with the best film orchestrations. There's the radish spirit that says nothing, but has one scene with Chihiro in an elevator, the masked spirit Kaonashi (literally translated into "No Face" in the English version) who is both diminutive and mysterious while having the potential of being a destructive monster, and that fat little mouse that's really a huge baby. However, despite his focus on Chihiro, Miyazaki has filled Spirited Away with many memorable characters. The Chihiro at the end of the movie is a different person than the timid little girl who followed her parents into a dark tunnel at the beginning. It's all from the perspective of Chihiro, who while trying to save her parents, makes new friends and gains more confidence. Then there's the way Miyazaki tells his story. You don't see this sort of variety in your typical animated movie. The various designs of the different spirits that Chihiro encounters are some of the best things about the movie. Spirited Away is an animated film that's simply bursting at the seams with imagination. After her mother and father are turned into pigs, Chihiro gets a job at a bathhouse for spirits, and her adventure begins.

The film tells the story of a young girl named Chihiro, who follows her parents into what appears to be an abandoned amusement park. If there could only be one film that Miyazaki was remembered for, it may just be this one. But, above all of the achievements from that animation studio, Spirited Away truly stands out. It's especially hard as so many of Studio Ghibli's films could be called masterpieces. The Movie To call any film a masterpiece is a strong statement. Buena Vista is releasing the film in their first wave of two-disc Miyazaki films, which also include Kiki's and Castle in the Sky. Last year Disney released Spirited Away in US theaters, and the film that is the highest-grossing movie ever in Japan is now a front-runner to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in the US. The first one under this deal, Princess Mononoke, was released by Miramax a couple of years ago. A few years ago, Disney approached his production house, Studio Ghibli, and offered to distribute all of their films in the US - without making any changes to the content. Japan's most renowned living filmmaker, Miyazaki is the genius behind such animated films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and of course Spirited Away. Chihiro must rely on Haku to save her parents in hopes of returning to their world. If you've never heard of Hayao Miyazaki, allow me bring you up to speed.

The owner of the bathhouse is the evil witch Yubaba, who is intent on keeping all trespassers as captive workers, including Chihiro. At the center of the town is a bathhouse where these creatures go to relax. In addition, the theme park turns out to be a town inhabited by demons, spirits, and evil gods. She runs to the restaurant and finds that her parents have turned into pigs. She meets a boy named Haku who tells her that Chihiro and her parents are in danger, and they must leave immediately. However, Chihiro refuses to eat and decides to explore the theme park a bit more. When her parents see a restaurant with great-smelling food but no staff, they decide to eat and pay later. They go through the tunnel and find an abandoned amusement park on the other side, with its own little town. Her parents decide to stop the car and explore the area. On the way to their new home, Chihiro's father makes a wrong turn and drives down a lonely one-lane road which dead-ends in front of a tunnel. Chihiro and her parents are moving to a small Japanese town in the countryside, much to Chihiro's dismay.
